rescheduling I485 FP date?

I just received my fingerprinting notice for I-485 scheduled for March xx, 2005. However, I won't be able to make it since I'll be traveling.

The instruction for rescheduling told me to send the request directly to the USCIS NEWARK, NJ location, which is the center servicing my home address.

I am curious:

1. would this request be handled locally by the USCIS Newark location or needs to be forwarded to the Vermont location and then processes, the latter taking longer time
2. please share if you had requested FP rescheduling, how soon will they be able to schedule you for the next appointment (in 1 month? in 2 month? in 1 year?).
3. I get to pick either Wed PM or SAT PM, I would think Wed PM stands a better chance of getting an appointment earlier. thoughts?

Thanks.

If you read your FP notice it is clearly mentioned that you can got for the same day and same time with in some time. No need to rescedule it. Sincear advise is better go as per the schedule

AHH477 your post is not making a lot of sense...

"If you read your FP notice it is clearly mentioned that you can got for the same day and same time with in some time. No need to rescedule it."

Here is what's written on the FP notice:

To process your application, INS must take your fingerprints and have them cleared by the FBI. PLEASE APPEAR AT THE BELOW APPLICATION SUPPORT CENTER AT THE DATE AND TIME SPECIFIED. If you are unable to do so, complete the bottom of this notice and return the entire original notice to the address below. RESCHEDULING YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL DELAY YOUR APPLICATION. IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SPECIFIED BELOW OR REQUEST RESCHEDULING, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED.

The date and time specified is for a particular day at 12noon. Not a range of dates or time.

"Sincear advise is better go as per the schedule."

Of course I know it's best to go as scheduled. But I couldn't since I will be traveling. That's why I posted this q to this forum.

i may have been getting a different kind of FP notice.

from reading the following post:

http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=161541

It seems that some notice allows for a range of time:

The FP letter says that I can come on the scheduled date or any wednesday after the appt till the first week of May.

but mine didn't, only 1 date and time and that's it.

I am really confused.

liabl0,

When I received my FP appointment letter, It mentioned a date and a time. However, on the date scheduled, I would have been unable to go for FP as I had a business trip planned. I went to FP office, spoke to the incharge. I mentioned to him that I would be away on the scheduled date. I also told him that if sent the forms for rescheduling, it will delay my processing. I asked him since I was alreday here, If I could so my FP..

He looked around, since it was Monday, there were lot of people. He asked me if I could make it any other day that week? He then gave me a appointment for that coming Saturday. He signed and wrote the time and date for that date.

I went there on saturday and did my FP without any problem.

BTW, this was in Queens, NYC.
You can try doing that. Its worth a try.
Hope this helps

-Jay

thanks i'll try to pay them a visit next week. the notice didn't mention any fees and acceptable payment method. I heard the FP fee is $25, correct, do they accept credit card or personal check? or just cash?

thanks everyone. i lucked out. i was able to walk in and complete my fingerprint today. It's very hard to get pass the checkers at the door but once you get inside, it's smooth sailing.

my damn passport!

sorry about that! I'm just really pissed right now... ok, I'm suppose to have an interview appointment in Jacksonville tomorrow regarding my I-485 tomorrow Feb.15... but I had my passport renewed and that's the only photo identification that I have, well I haven't gotten it from the mail yet... and I also need it for them to stamp it for my "permit to travel". So I had to re-schedule it!!! and I was really looking forward to this... So I was just wondering how long the "re-scheduling process" would take? I hope it wouldn't be take long..! IF ONLY I HAD MY PASSPORT RENEWED LONG TIME AGO!!! NONE OF THIS WOULD HAPPEN.....

refund?

oh and I forgot! it was an "overnight" package I should've received it yesterday!! I just really had to get that out of my system...
