request for P4 in India or US?

hello,

My P3 has been sent to Bombay consulate recently (1 week ago) and I am wondering whether to ask the consulate to send P4 to Indian address? I plan to leave for India about 3 weeks before the interview. Would I get P4 to US address by then? Any experiences to share?

Also, what kindof form is that? Rather how complicated? Would I need to take assistance from my lawyer or I can fill it myself in India if I asked for P4 to be sent to Indian address? Any suggestions?

Answer: Normally it takes about 3.5-4 weeks to receive the P4 in usa and less than 2 weeks to receive by mail in india. My p4 was mailed from bbay on 5th sept and i received on 29th sept and am scheduled for interview end of october. If you dont receive p4 packet while in usa you/ your folks can go to the consulate and pick it up between 9am-11am M-F except holidays!

Answer: P4 is a packet which contains your appointment letter which is a regular computerized printout with your name along with derivative candidates if any and your case number. Along with this appointment letter there are other printouts which explain what are the required documents and how photographs should be clicked ....general information. There is nothing in the p4 that you need to fill out except the ds 230 part ii which you can fill out and then sign only in the presence of the consular officer after GC approval.

I forgot to mention another issue that has been troubling me. My H1B is about to expire end of October and my company has already filed for extension (in 1st week of Sept), but I don't expect to get it by December (when I expect my GC interview in Mumbai).

Did anybody have such a case? I am a bit nervous if having pending H1B petition is going to be an issue? Does anybody have any experiences to share?

This should not be a problem as long as:
* you carry your H-1B extension application receipt AND
* you get your GC approval

This will be an issue if and only if there is a delay in your CP approval due to sec 221(g) which means you have forgotten your document in usa then in that event you will have to wait in india till your h-1b approval, then apply for h-1b and only then will you be able to enter usa on h-1b.

Hopefully none of us need to read to the 2nd paragraph...
