Following my call to USCIS customer service, I got a reply by mail from the DHS yesterday regarding my pending I485. My PD (Jan 14 2002) became current in April 2006. The reply read as follows

"Type of service requested: Case status - Outside Processing Time

"Based on the request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please call customer service at the number provided below"

Does it mean my case is stuck in name check, or is it something else? This message is different from the standard reply they used to send before. Has anyone got a similar message? What happened after that? Any approvals, decisions, nothing? The last time my lawyer checked the status in October 2005 he had found out that my case was stuck in name check. Please advice,

I got an identical message back in Nov 05 (I had call the line in sept 05). I got my case approved mid Dec 05, about a month after the letter with the message you got.

However, at the time of my apporval they told me that my wife's case was stuck in name check, and it still is, so they only apporvel principal.

ICGWting,
Thanks for your response. Could you please share your PD. Also did you enquire about your security checks and did you find out anything before your approval?

Hi sanindia, what is the customer service # you are talking abt?? Is it the same 1-800-375-5283?? If so, how did you get to speak to an officer, which triggered the mail to you? Can you pls share that info??

Thanks.

Its the same customer service number. The only trick I used to get through to the officer was I selected option for changing address and then talked to the officer about case status. If he/she asks about address change, just say no change in address. The tyoe of response you get varies, I was not told anything about security checks but some others on this forums have been given info about that too. Good luck
