renewal of H1B after first three years

I have a very basic question. I am currently working for two years on H-1B and will of course extend my H-1B for the complete six years after the first three years are over. Since I am not really sure how good my company lawyer is I have one question about the timing for sending your paper work for the H-1B extension. When should the lawyer send the paper work to the CSC ? I don't want to send it too late to get into any kind of trouble but also not too early. Any advice what is the point in time.
