Renewal of Canadian Passport

Hi all,

I'm under my second TN (1st for 1 year, then law changed and I got 2nd for 3 years) and it will be expiring January 31st 2012.

So they will be filing for my 3rd TN (by the end of year PP) that would start on February 1st 2012. My canadian passport expires July 20th 2012 which is less than six months away from the start of my new TN.

Passport Canada states that you can renew the passport up to one year before it expires.

Question:

Do I need my passport to be renewed before my company applies for my next TN? I'm planning ahead since I don't want to be caught by surprise.

Thanks for your input it will be very much appreciated.

Carmen :)

You can also renew your passport from the UK.

This seems to be complete misinformation and should be ignored--and you've posted misinformation in other threads too. Please don't post about that which you do not know.

The original poster is a Canadian citizen working in the USA in TN status. She has traveled to South America in the past, according to other posts, but has not mentioned any connection with the UK, and would certainly not have a reason to apply for a Canadian passport from the UK.

To the original poster--I'd recommend applying for the new Canadian passport as soon as practicable after July 20, 2011. Not so much because of the TN renewal but just to get it out of the way as soon as you have a block of time when you don't expect to be traveling.
