Renewal of AP

This is the situation

I-485 pending. Person is outside the US now with AP active till May. Would like to get to US for couple of weeks in February using this still valid AP and back to the home country. Can someone in US send an application for AP renewal for the person now, while he is still abroad, so it would be ready for his next visit to US in summer? In case it cannot be mailed to him abroad, he can come to US in February and wait until it is approved and then leave with the renewed one. The main purpose is to save some time by sending an application while he is still abroad.

I understand that by the rules the person cannot leave the US until his AP is approved, but in this case first AP will be valid both at the time the renewal is sent and at the time it is approved, even though the person will be abroad. Form I-131 (the application for AP) has Part 1 which is supposed to be filled with the information about a person who is filing the application for another person who is abroad at the time of application. Can this be used in our case?

--------------if he wants to use new AP for reentry to US then it need top be approved before he goes out ( FYI I did remember a discussion of AILA with USCIS offical and they gave some info. check Murthy site I think i read long back)
