Renew greencard after 25 years

Hi, I have a friend, who's been a green card holder for 25 years. At that time the greencards INS gave did not have expiration date. Last time he entered to the US, the office told him, that he needed to renew it.
I believe he will need to file the I-90 in order to renew it, but he has some questions regarding it.

1. He never left the contry for 6 months at the same time, but probably the sum of the days being out of the country from those 25 years is more than 300 days. It will affect the renewal?

2. The reason why he never became Us citizen, is because his nationality doesn't allow double nationality. He still wants to keep that por personal reasons. Do you guys think, that will affect the renewal also?

Thanks in advance!

1. As long as one single trip was not too long, he's fine. And 300days of absence over 25 years isn't much to me.

2. I don't think so. He's applying to renew the GC, that's all.

1. Accumulating even 2000 days of being outside the US is not a problem if spread out over the span of 2+ decades. It is being outside for more than 6 months in a single year that could cause problems.

2. There is no obligation to apply for citizenship. He doesn't need to justify why he hasn't applied.
