hi, im confused about the answer to the question "if you ever been under immigration proceedings" i came as a j-1 student, changed to tourist visa twice and the second one was denied, i got a letter about leaving the country within 2 months.as you see i never did. going through marriage process now. is it meant to be removal/deportation/rescission proceedings? question 16 in i-485 form.

Did you letter mention anything about court appearance? You will need the copy of the letter which you need to attach to your form. It would be better if you contact an attorney for this.

i dont have this letter unfortunately, thats why i dont know which info to put. ill try to contact the attorney thank you but i thought the people's experience will help me too). is it too bad for my process?

Not sure. But my advice to you is contact a lawyer for this before you run into any complications.

got the answer from the lawyer-just in case someone has the same situation-"When the form asks if you have ever been in immigration proceedings, it is asking you if you have ever been in immigration court. If you had been in immigration court, you would have received a document called a Notice to Appear, and it would have instructed you to show up at an immigration court on a particular day at a particular time. You then would have had to appear in person, in a courtroom, before a judge. Just applying for an immigration benefit from the immigration service and receiving a letter from them telling you the benefit has been denied is not the same thing as being in immigration proceedings. If that is all that has happened to you then you have not been in immigration proceedings. You have just been denied an immigration benefit. "
