Remote work and state of residence

The employer is in NYC. I work remotely, located in the NY state. Considering moving to another state, but continue working for the dame employer.
Are there legal restrictions on residing in another state, given I am a TN visa holder? Or am I allowed to work from any state?

Related scenario. My company orders remote work over in office work. It has recently liberalized its remote policy further by allowing up to 45 days of remote work internationally. Can a TN1 status employee for this employer work outside of the US within the time limit of this policy?

Yes, Once outside US, you can work as long as you wish for that company, as long as you have work authorization in that other country.

1. Make sure to alert your employer if you plan to move. Other states have big tax implications. But your TN is fine.

2. There is no requirement for you to work in the USA on your TN. It is a permission.

Very helpful both nelsona and grant2. Do you guys see any issues upon re-enrty into the United States after an absence of 45 days from the US while still on TN1 and working remotely outside of the US?

No. You could bring your security badge if you have one, or your most recent paystub, as proof that you are still working.

In my case immigration officer put client name, this is the 1st time I got such stamp on TN, so my company can not switch me to another client so kinda H1B restriction. Just my thoughts if I start working remotely in USA, file taxes from another state then it will give opportunity for many questions to immigration officer, if this job is remote why need to work from USA and need of TN. In my current interview officer asked my what I was doing in last five years, I told him working remotely from Canada for USA clients. Seems that helped me he sensed company may move this job to Canada and one or two business trips in a month.
