I am an US citizen with OCI, I want to relocate to India for 2 years. Is there any procedure to be followed if I relocate as a US citizen. I would be thank ful to you if you can kindly reply.

Should I inform the USPS (Postal services to forward my post to my Indian address).
Should I inform the Social Security office that I am relocating out of US (Please note I am still not in my retirement age and hence no Social Security benefits yet.

Should I call my Credit cards companies and tell them to block the transcations till I come back to US.

Should I inform my Bank.

How to take care of the Drivers Licence, after I sell my house, I will not have an address in USA, my current Drivers Licence is valid for 3 more years.

Should I inform the Credit Bureau???, and what should I tell them.

Please do help me with your valuable responses. Thank You!!!:)

Do you really think they care and that USPS is going to forward your mail to foreign country?

Why would they care?

Ask yourself whom did you notify when you were coming from India to US.

In what way your post is useful to the poster or others?

When we moved to US from India, there is always someone to take care of all these things.

Once OP moves to foreign country – CRA’s, SSA, DL, etc. have no influence on OP life there… Except taxes – which OP is required to file every year even while living in foreign country.

I would not follow your advice about finding someone “to take care of all these things “in US – while he actually lives in India - as this may be illegal and you can get someone else in trouble (and yourself too…) Not to mention taxes etc.

It is one thing to have someone checks your mail while you are on 2 week vacations – but it is different situation once you are living in foreign country for 2 years.

First of all I didn't tell the OP to find someone in US to take care of things while he/she is in India. It is your misunderstanding. I responded to your Q. Mostly we have relatives living in the same household in India and they will let us know immediately if anything related comes. Here in US we can't do that. Thats the reason for this post by OP.

Here is the link for some tax related info. I am not suggesting anyone to follow this. I am just pointing this to get some info.

5. Update social security with your foreign address, just in case.

Unless you are receiving SS benefits, the SSA does not keep a record of your address. They simply take what the IRS sends them.

Thus, you should really update your address with the IRS.

As to how the whole thing turns out after one moves to India, I have not been able to find any answers to it. I have searched various forums etc.

Lots of people ask questions, then they relocate abroad, but they never share their experiences of how they are managing their US accounts, SSA, correspondence etc.

It will be nice if someone who has relocated overseas shares their experience on these issues.
