Relevance of N600 / Certificate of Citizenship

I have seen several posts in this forum recommending N600 for minor kids even though US passport is considered sufficient. Reasons quoted are:

1. If you lose passport, the certificate is the only way to prove your status.
(well.. If you lose certificate, then what ? )
2. Some universities may ask for the certificate during admissions.

I heard that if you update the kid's social security card status, that is all is needed. During admissions, you are asked just the social security number alone. That is supposed to take care of everything.

I just got my citizenship. I want to Return to India this year. If I have to get the certificate for my daughter, it will be delayed by an year based on the current processing times. I could delay it provided it is needed.

Any suggestions/comments ?.....

thanks

i am sorry,i dont know how we missed your thread...

i would suggest apply for a passport .

just becareful with the passport.....
even if she loses the passport she should be in the system....

but it is always safe to have her certificate...

Thanks for the reply. We are planning to get her US passport and OCI.

However, my dilemma is - is N600 worth enough to change all the "return to india" plans? i.e., post pone it by an year and handle all that is involved in any change of big plans.

If it is just a psychological comfort, I do not want to do it. But if it is going to hamper something in the future in any way, I would like to do it.

yeAH,YOU ARE RIGHT, chicago time line is 1 yr for 600....
why do they need a year for giving a certificate...all they have to do is check if she is your kid???
i think we indians are the biggest critics of our country back home...but when u look at uscis/xxx/social security....man india is better, even though we are overpoppulated atleast we dont have to wait this long for anything. :D
