i know tons of people like that ...most left for good and returned back to europe ..some are still struggling ...i knew few who manage to get rich ... but its one in a million chance ..things are getting ugly here and they won't improve in the next decade or so...

Thanks for your reply Praha. Sometimes we feel as if the grass is greener on the other side and find ourselves going from a bad situation to worst. For e.g. even if persons are taking a decent amount of money over there, if they can not find jobs, their money can be wiped out in a flash. Then what? Even losing the DV fees are hard to swallow in these hard economic times. That is why all of need to think hard about possible obstacles, weigh out the pros and cons, research and plan wisely.

Why I you guys even asking this? You never know until you try. So many people dream to win this and have a chance to come and live here. I think there is always a way back, if you dont like it here, you can always move back to your home country. It all depends on you. Young people have more chances to accomodate here and go to school, find jobs and raise a familly. My best friend from here form US, came with her parents in 2004 after her familly won DV 2004, she was 18 and her older sister was here already, her parents are in their 50s now, this year they got citizenship and the parents are moving back to Poland in the next few years after they will retire here and get normal pension plans that will afford them to live a decent life in Poland with the money from here. SO things work out for all ages, either they stay in US or go back after taking citizenship, which gives them the opportunity to always go back.

2004 was a good year .. i came then to this country .. but every year from then on was bit more difficult .. THEY SAY CRISIS BEGAN IN 2007 but already in 2004 and 2005 i had clients giving me a hard time .. going bankrupt beofre i got paid etc.. it was a mess long before ..decent life in Poland now its more expensive then 5-6 yeras ago .. Poland is not a cheap place and far cry from Poland 20 yeras ago after the fall of communism .. salaries are up but so are the expensis of evry day life .. 1300-1500 dollara a month providing that you already own a home in poland is what you need today to live comfortable life over there .. its not mexico or salvador .. prices are racing to reach EU level and fast.. lots of proffesions are making same or more money then in the USA with far greater benefits (Poland still has something left from the old communist system - helth care for example and socila programs )..
I say try by all means but its going to be a rough ride ..many are going back fast .. much more then ever before and many more decided not to follow the process even when they got selected ..ITS A PRETTY SURE SIGN OF DECLINE ..

i have a lots of friends in Polish comunity and In can tell you a big buzz for the last few years is ..how to get a polish citizenship ... generations of americans of polish decent are trying to get a passport of the coutry their grand parents left ages ago .. and i can tell you its not for the purpose or having it as a souvenir .. same thing with italians or other eu nations

abut education of the young people here i can't really say much good.. there is some really good schools .. ivy league type .. but appart from those all the rest are just printing diplomas od dubious qulity .. + they cost a pretty penny and seldom they provide .. its anegdotal universal lack of knowledge of americans about the wolrd outside of usa .. but also on some elemental level they show astounding lack of knowledge even if they did spend years in school for say so called blue colar jobs .. i have a independent electrician business and i was employing a lot of them .I had to watch and supervise my workers very closely because they could not do almost anything without beign micro managed or I would get into trouble ..I had same business in my country in europe but there and did not need to oversee every little bit ..HERE i HAD TO or almost erything would be done wrong .. worst of all in most cases they would told me with the straight face .. this is ow they teach us in the school.. one example ..I did instalation of the AC unit in some bulding .. I talked to a guys and they said easy we did it before in some other companies . that was my first year as a individual contractor so i thought well these guys are arounb for years they know this stuff its part of american urban culture if anything elserigh ?!.. wrong .. they fixed AC from
''outside "!!!!!..one push and 40 pound piece of metal would end up on someones head and i will go to jail !!..year after year I cought my workers doing some crazy stuff .. rewiring .. mixing up heath islolation .. WELDING WRONG PARTS.. etc ..I LEARNED TO WATCH THEM LIKE A HAWK ... and to check everything 2X before
sorry to say mexicans where even more uneducated but they would show up all dolled up anc cocky and they would say things like .. yes boss i know ..THEY KNEW EVERYTHING but when it comes to actually dod the job they would do it in some ways that nobody thought about it ..
One time we got called to ahouse which had a problem with cloggin .. something got stuck in the pipes .. i suspected it was hair or just plain dirt in the bathroom pipe.. I had a licence for plumbing in those days too so i said to a mexians who worked for me to fix that .. i had to go to another location but I will be back later .. they said no worries ..boss.. I thought my self what could possibly go wrong .. we have a wire and acid so what you do is to put acid inside and use the wire to clean the pipe .. wire has razorblades and cuts into everything .. but this guys had different ideas .. back home i guess they do staff like that all the time
so they knocked allong the pipe all the way to garage below and they FIGURE OUT WHERE THE CLOGGIN IS AND JUST CUT INTO THE PIPE WITH DRILLS !!..they cut the piece about the size of the fist and cleaned the pipe by hand (they played short straw hand so one with short piece OF THE STRAW would cleAN IT and the rest would be standing and watching )..and they closed the hole with the PLASTER !!!! .. all in all 10 minute job and they went for a beer!!.. one hour later I came back and found out would they did and almost had a stroke ..I had to change the whole piece of the pipe -it took 2 days work on my own expense .. owner was going through the roof saying it would sue .. so no more mexicans either after that but US workers were as much f..d up as those guys

Natta i agree with you perfectly. Why do you ask this question at all? Asking this question is like asking that has someone gone to school and fail before? Of course yes. And It is not everybody who even becomes successful after university graduation. So does that means that we should discourage or stop people from attending schools? No way!
Definitely US will never be a land of roses to everybody but to some people it will be. So I think we should always face life with positive mentality, no matter what. And even if things are not going the way as expected, there is always a way back to your root. Immigrating to US doesn't mean that you're in a bondage where you can never go back home.

Please let's stop asking these question and face life with more determination and I believe God will bless our efforts. Thanks

Immano, we need people like you on this forum for motivation. You're absolutely right! I love the US and will succeed with God's help! Thanks again.

It seems as if this has been discussed before (right PRAHA..how are you by the way?). I just want to say that nothing in life is easy and if people are prepared to go through the DV process, uproot their family and move to the US then they better be prepared to make it work out.

I personally think that not everyone moving to the US wants to be a millionaire, people just want to be able to get something worthwhile for their efforts and hard work and this is sometimes impossible in our home countries. Middle class in some countries cannot even afford to buy a home or a car, can you truly say that for the US as well? Many people move for the opportunities that it may afford their children, NOT the adults but the children.

It's a long term investment and should be treated as such.

What new immigrants should do is try and live as minimally as they could (use coupons, shop the sales, buy second hand furniture and cars etc) until you have a good job and can afford to splurge. Don't get caught up in the hype(flashy cars, clothes, partying) and lose focus on why you migrated, don't try to live like the friends who have been there for years.

Just keep telling yourself that failure is not an option.

Not to be negative after a positive post but of course there are people who make it in the USA and people who leave with a bad feeling for whatever reason.

If you come from a socialist country it might be harder over here since you will see that over here you need to provide more for your self and retiring age is not set in stone and people do have more than one job, which is totally accepted over here...

I know people who left due not having a job and no unemployment benefits. From experience I can tell you that you get to know what the US is about after you are here a couple of years. We are here for more than a decade and Thought we knew how the US is and was, but only after being longer here you see the pros and cons which can be different for every person...The first years we mostly saw the pros...but still for us the pros are more than the cons and we don't want to leave, but if you can't find a job and have no money or ideas to start for your self than it can be very hard to live overhere....

In Europe you can't lose your job overnight...overhere you can get the pink slip the next day, nothing is for sure over here, but that counts for both sides...

OMG sonibago, you too are positive! everything you've said makes sense and are constructive especially "try to live minimally as they could" etc. A lot of people should consider these tips regardless if we win or not. Also always have that mental attitude in all aspects of our lives "Failure is not an option"

@ Praha...sorry to hear your experiences above. however, do you plan to stay in the US or do you plan to go back to your home country in the future?

hey everyone.. i need some help with the photos for dv lottery.. i mean i dont wanna get disqualified if i dont meet those requirements.. can you all suggest where can i get the picture clicked professionally with all the preferred size n resolution

I get what you are trying to get across, but to make it sound like Americans are dumb and mexicans have more respect is to total non sense...

I won't get into how Polish people are seen in some countries in Europe right now, that is for others to google and to look into the issues that are out in Europe on a daily base...

My grandmother flew Poland before WWll, so don't say I'm racist or whatever....

What Praha is stating is just business issues that can arise in a downhill economy and it is up to the business owner to create new ways to keep the business run well. It is not always easy but we do business with a lot of companies who are doing very well and the only thing is that they don't dare to hire due to the health care issues and they don't know what will be next with this government...The have enough work and good workers....you get what you pay for. If Praha is paying so low he will get the worst workers....

well I m pretty close of going back myself .. see what happens in the next year or so..REGARDING MY BUSINESS .. it was good .. nothing extra good .. pretty much like back home ..some of the people i knew from the old coutry made far more money then I and they stayed home not moving at all
regarding '' dumb '' americans .. I say this much .. it looks like I only got those with short attention span ..anyway I had to put up with them a lot and it did cost me a lot too.. on the long run I could not expand my business because I had nobody to count on .. I was recently watching some reality show series about the guy who runs house restoration business in boston i belive .. and he had same problem like me ...lousy workers who can not do anything unless he is around and at one point he said .. i can't expand like this ..and they don't even do anything beside wood restoration

in general i have to say i missed better opportunities back home but thats life .. I miss calculated but I ll try one more year

I have no respect for mexicans as workers ..sorry to say .. they just cant do certain stuff .. only some tough phyisical things -hard labour .. say cleaning and such ..got nothing against them actually but I was told first time i hired them that they ''can't do s..t''( american guy told me that .. he runs simmilar business as i do)..but i thought maybe its just rasism or something but now i knew too that seldom there is some good worker amongst them .. anyway i cant take a chance and lose my licence for sake of some political correctness.. nobody is gonna send me a medal for that

over the years I worked with more then a 200+ different people so its not some fictional life experience
