Regarding Experience letters for 140.

Hi Friends,
I used to work for Chennai based company in India in 1997. and I submitted that experience letter to count for my 5 years experience.
But that is small company and they have closed that company 2 years back.
Can some one tell how the experience letter validated.
Do your employers get some verification letter, they have to reply back or sometime.

Did you guys see any REF on such issues.
Please clarify.

Usually INS does not verify any letters that you provided. If they have a doubt on it and they send a RFE, you can try to find some people / colleagues in that same company and their statement will also work. Sometimes, especially in US, if you leave your job with a desi consulting company, they will refuse to give your experience letter. In such a case, a affidavit by a colleague can be used. I have writtem=n many such affidavits for my friends and I know a few who have been approved.

Do you need notriazied etc.

Can you please send the format. It will help me.

I dont know if the person who I sent it to notarized it. I will try to find a format and sent it to you .. or paste it here.

Actually why don't you paste it in the FAQ's thread and post the link here, that way it won't be lost.

Good idea. I dont have it my office. I will look up the letter at home and post it in the evening.

I checked with my friend who used this letter. You should get this notarized. Also he was reporting to me in the project. So, try getting such a letter from the person who you reported to / or another person in a similar capacity. If no one can be found, your colleague in your capacity / position will do. Do not get it from someone who was lower in the company then you.
 
Some Questions

Should not this letter be on company's letter head ?

Another Question , from whom should we get the document notarized ? Is financial institution such as bank's ok ??
 
Yes...You can get it notorized from the Bank too....a friend of mine took similar kinda affidavit from me too...its not required to be on company's letter head obviously...because company may or may not exist anymore and thats the reason you need the affidavit from collegue...
 
More Q's

Does the person giving affadavit be empolyee (current) of the company for which exp. letter is sought ?
 
No..he may or may not be working with that company. working still for the same company is not a requirement...An affidavit is legal statment given by the person who states that he worked from such n such date on such n such position in that company with you....thats all...
talk to you your attorney for specifics, he'd be able to tell you in detail...
