Regarding Collection of passport from embassy

I was hoping to engage next month. In the meantime I won the dv lottery. I know that after submitting the ds 260 form I can unlock it and add him as my spouse.He is currently in Australia under the bbridging visa category.I saw in a video on youtube that after going to the interview they will collect our passports!!If so, how long will it take to get it back in our hands?Because he has to go Australia again for about a month after the interview.
 
When you get back your passport will depend on several factors such as clearing the background check, your embassy’s practice in terms of how long it typically takes them to issue an applicant’s visa, passport delivery method, etc.

They probably won’t even look at those pages. If the cover is mostly ok, and the biographic pages and page with the US visa is ok. I wouldn’t worry about it
 
I see what seems to be water mark "damage/stain" on what you posted above. I once had a similar situation several (several) years ago. I personally didn't like the idea of carrying around such a passport, so I basically renewed it because it bothered me personally, so I renewed/replaced it for my peace of mind.
