Reentry with no GC

Hello,

I am a DV-2007 winner and I have now until mid April 2007 to enter the US. Then, once this is done, I should receive the green card within a year.
But can I enter the US and then leave within one week (without receiving the green), and come back 6 months later (I might still not have received the green card at this time)?

From what you say I'm assuming you had your interview and were approved. You have a stamp in your passport right? Then yes, you can come into the US and if you have a reason to leave within a week you may do so. Your stamp in your passport is usually valid for one year, so if you can't wait to receive the card (you should get it within 1-2 weeks) the answer is that you can travel in and out of the US during the validity of the stamp in your passport. Or you can get a friend to send you the Card.

Hi Barbara,

I was approved and got on my passport an immigrant visa valid for six months. But I haven't entered the US yet. So I don't have the stamp yet.

From the date you enter the US and get the stamp, would you know how long you have to move for good to the US? Let's say I move to the US one year after getting the stamp on my passport, is there a risk to lose the green card?
