reentry permit

Hi,

My husband is a green card holder, for family reasons we want to go to INDIA and stay there for couple of years. I know we have to apply for reentry permit and get the finger printing done even before we leave the country .

1. Looking at the form, it asks for the purpose of the trip -- What would be a valid reason?. Is temporary work assignment a good reason
2. How much time does it take for the processing.
3. Can we leave the country after couple of months from the approval date(start date or date of intended departure) and come back if needed before or after six months and go back to INDIA and come back for the second time within the REP expiry date?

4. If we leave the country couple of months after the start date, would the end date move by two months, or is it still going to be the original expiry date.

5. Should we consult an attorney to get the I-131 filed or can we file it on our.

Thanks in advance

1- that is OK
2-from 2 weeks up to many months
3-yes you can leave whenever you want, come as many as you want during the validity of the permit and before its expiration
4-The end date will not move, if you move after one year then you have one year only left and so on
5- Up to you
