reentry permit

I am thinking as long as you have NOA extending your status for 1 year, that you should be fine to come back to US. I am in exactly the same situation, I was just wondering if I was the only one, therefore my question.
When does your NOA expire?? My GC expired in dec 07, so my NOA should be good until dec 08!? If your NOA is no longer valid, you should get a stamp in your passport extending your status for another year before you leave the country.

If you are now eligible for citizenship, filing N-400 will actually force the outcome of I-751. I'm not sure how it works, but people who have pending I-751 and file N-400 when eligible, seem to get approved I-751 very quickly, so there is only good outcome in this.

Did you try calling them and asking about I-751?

Thanks. I'm not sure when her stamp expires so I will check into that.

I've tried calling previously but can never seem to get a live human being...how do you get through to actually talk to anyone at the USCIS site? Any tips?

Thanks for the info. So you don't need a reentry permit if you stay less than 6 months...but you need a reentry permit if staying out of the country more than 6 months...BUT most likely will break continuous residency? What is the purpose of reentry permit then? just to waste money but HOPE that maybe because you spent the money on it, they will let you keep it as continuous residency? Seems like we wasted money on the reentry permit if this is the case...

I thought the whole reason for doing the reentry permit was to prevent continuous residency if longer than 6 months.

The important distinction is that an I-131 Reentry Permit only protects your LPR, it does preserve residence for naturalization purposes.

The only way to preserve natz continuous residence is through an N-470, but they have strict eligibility criteria including a minimum of 1 year uninterrupted US presence, and employment for a US corporation or religious/missionary organization.

PreaetorianXI, sorry, which question was that an answer to? These were the questions I still had:
So if we file for her citizenship now (M-476), would the continuous residency count stop from the day that application is received or do they continue to monitor is until it is approved?

All eligibility criteria, including continuous residence, must be maintained continuously until you take the oath.

Also, being that we are leaving the country very soon, will there be a chance that while we are in my wife's native country that we will be called in for anything? It will be pretty hard to make any appointments if we are not in the country. :P

Fingerprints are usually scheduled within a couple of months of initial application.
