Greetings to you all, the best news arrived for me today! I received news from the INS that my application has received a recommended approval. What exactly does this mean? Can anyone help me with what happens next? Do I still need to apply for an EAD or based on this recommended approval can I begin working? Please help with any information or experience that you may have as to what the next steps are to be taken.

Thank you all for your input,

God Bless :)

congratulations!!!

Your questions are answered in the letter itself.

In any case,

You will receive the OFFICIAL approval as soon as the FBI clears your background. This process takes a few months.

You will need an EAD to work (until final asylum approval). The 150 days clock does not apply to you anymore. You can fill out the I-765 now, no fee is required.

Good luck.

Recommended Approval was given to me on April 18th from chicago office. I am still waiting for my final approval. I had my finger print done on April 23rd. I have contacted the Chicago Asylum office couple of times but they couldn't give me any time frame.

you should be getting your approval soon as it has been taking people from 3-6 months to clear the background check which is required prior to issuing an approval letter....

I hope you receive this approval letter soon....

Regards,

Yes sure, I got my Recommended Approval in May 27 and still no news about the Approval Notice. Applied for an EAD 50 days ago, the receipt said it will take 21 days to process, the website status says it'll take 90! So while Rec. Approval can be great news in general, it's just really a tease because it'll take quite a while to get the work permit.
Now the real question is where does the year to file for green card kick in, from the date of rec. approval or approval notice?

Regards

Just an interesting observation: after receiving recommended approval, it is clear that we apply for an EAD. This will allow legal work to be carried out. My question is this: With recommended approval whilst awaiting the EAD, is it permissable and legal to be allowed to start your own small family business or not?

Requirement of one year wait prior to filing for Permanet residence application requirement is from the date of asylum granted letter is issued.

At this point please don't worry about when the green card will be issued as I am confident because the history shows that anytime the backlog gets to the stage that it is today then legislation is passed to clear the backlog and I am confident that this will happen in next few years.

Regards,

Note: This is my personal opinion, for a legal opinion consult a lawyer

Congratulations..
I am a little pessimistic about GC, in current political climate any measure that helps immigrants will have tough time. Apply for RTD and try not to think about GC too much...
