recommendation letters for NIW

Dear Friends,
I am a researcher in biomedical science. I am currently working on a project to cure sickle cell anemia. I am desperately looking for sample recommendation letters in NIW category. My lawyer has not provided me any and he is more interested in writing the letters himself in his hopeless non-technical English. My friends here in the University have applied in OR category. Can somebody out there please provide me with few sample recommedation letters in the field of biomedical science, veterinary science or molecular biology for NIW category.

The letters aren't supposed to be overly technical. If the INS reviewer can't understand what you are doing, then he/she cannot approve your petition. Your target reviewer is someone who is college educated but does not necessarily have a science background. Listen to your counsel...that is why you hired him. If you don't like him, get another.

The "magical" sample letter does not exist. It must be written to meet *your* credentials. Your petition can't look like the one that just crossed the INS officer's desk.

Thanks so much for your advise. I hired my current lawyer because he was successful in NIW case for my coworker 5 years ago. My coworker thinks highly of him. I have paid the lawyer $1250 by now. I hired him because he wanted to write the recommendation letters. At present, I have been waiting for him for last 3.5 months. He has sent me only one letter uptil now which I had to modify profusely. He sent me another letter today which is just a major disaster. The lawyer has been putting down my case since the very beginning. Should I get another lawyer who is local and does not discourage me as much but will not write the letters.

letter writing by the lawyer is good sign (as they can tackle the legalities in the content) but taking 3.5 months to write the letter (that is after you provide all the info needed to compose the letters) is not a good sign. I would guess that your lawyer may not be an experienced one in either your field of employment or the category you applied under. You do not have to find a local lawyer but a a very good lawyer anywhere in the country (being local does'nt help!). But then its true that many people have filed the cases themselves and had them approved! So it comes down to how confident you are in handling the legal content (believe me sometimes the reasons they give for rejection can be a ten page letter from them giving all gory details for rejecting which you could have never guessed before hand). There are some good lawyers that handle science background clients and some of them with very creative writers who compose your letters.
BTW, even if you do hire a "good" lawyer be certain to proofread not only the letters but also the forms they fill out. They are not all that careful at times.

I truly appreciate your responses. I do not feel confident enough to compose the letters without the lawyer's help. But I can certainly write the initial drafts. I discontinued services for my current lawyer yesterday. He is not going to return my money even though he wrote just one letter for me. I lost $1250 and 6 months of my time because of him. His name is Myron Kramer and his office is in Atlanta. I don't recommend him to anyone. He always discouraged me and brushed me off. I will check out the web site and start drafting letters myself while looking for another lawyer. Could you please suggest a good lawyer who is experienced in handling NIW cases for biomedical researchers.

post your email and I can em a few better known attornies. However, you should still check with them as to their experience with NIW, success, and any biomed cases filed? 1250/ 6 months loss is nothing to gripe about. What counts that you realized the problem sooner than later....which could have really hurt.

Thanks for responding to my plea for help. I called two of the lawyers in different places but I cannot pay their legal fees of $5500. So I have ended up with a local lawyer in Birmingham. His name is Robert Cox and many students, postdocs have gone through him. He is not an excellent lawyer but at least, I can go to his office to push him. He gave me lots of things to read and bunch of sample letters. He wants to apply for I-485 at the same time. These lawyers are suckers! What if I-140 does not get approved??? His fees is $3000. I ordered a self to do kit for OR/NIW from www.usaia.org for $89. The description sounded good. Hope I get it this week so that I can go through it this labor day weekend. I will post my impression of the kit on this forum.
In other news, I threatened Myron Kramer, my X corrupt attorney that I will file a complaint against him in Bar association of Georgia if he does not return at least half of my money. He complied immediately. I hope to get half of my money back this week. My Birmingham lawyer asked me to request my Profs for reco letters by sending my CV and a sample letter. Then the lawyer will review the drafts. Please look for requirements for NIW on various websites and that is all the info I have currently.

I' ve bought the kit too and found it very good. You will get a good ideas how to collect evidence for your case,as well as the samples of Let.of rec.
