I am desperate to find out about your experience traveling to Pakistan on Advance Parole.

I will be getting my AP soon and looking forward to visit my parents after 6 long years, but also nervous about traveling on AP.

So any help or comments will be of great help.

Thanks

I visited couple of months ago. No problem at all.Make sure you get transit visa for UK from USA. If you going through UK.

Do you have to go to Special registration process? Can you explain a little bit about this process from leaving to reentering in US? What process you have to go thru and if before leaving US you need to appear in front of Immigration officer etc

If you like you can send me a Private message.

Thanks

If you were fingerprinted in 2003 under special registration process, then before leaving USA you have to go to CBP (custom and border protection) office and inform them that you are leaving USA today. They will enter some information in their record and thats it. While entering into US, your fingerprint will be taken again. Never traveled on AP, so don't know any other special process.

** CBP offices are on the airport. Get exact information from CBP web site. You have to contact the office where your international flight will depart.

Dont worry much about special registeration process. I left U.S.A two weeks ago. The CBP officer asked for passport and I-94 form. He wrote down some info in a booknote. Then he stamped my passport and I-94 form, and asked me to give the I-94 form to the airline ticket counter upon boarding. It took only 15 minutes. Sometimes it may take longer depending on the number of people who do the Special Registeration. So be in the airport 2-3 hours before your departure.
You also need to find the exact location of Special Registration office at your departure airport. Search for it over the internet.

Good Luck

Thanks Reza for your comments.
When you say "left USA 2 weeks ago", you mean left for Pakistan 2 weeks ago and are you still in Pakistan?

Malik, when you leave USA, its the same process for everyone who went for fingerpriting in 2002-2003 under special registration (citizens of 35-40 countries come under this). When you leave USA, It doesn't matter you have H1 stamp on your passport or you have AP.

Are are worried, what will happen at pakistani airport? If not, change your thread header something like "Recent Travel Experience on AP ", you may get more replies. Or search this forum for the same.

Apart from CBP office visit, every person who travels on AP, goes through almost same process.

Anyone with a recent travel experience using AP to Pakistan? Please share the departure and coming back procedures, observations.

Just wanted to add my experience of visiting Pakistan and using AP to come back.

I went to the CBP for Special Registration to register my departure. It took about 10 minutes and they just verified some information about my stay in the US.

On my way back, The office sent me for secondary inspection where they verified again my employer information, travel details and reasons, and put a stamp in my passport allowing me to enter as a parolee.

I was not asked for finger printing, photo, or special registration. I even asked CBP officer if special registration is required or if they need my picture or finger prints, they replied that they do have my information.

Overall experience was OK, except when they sent me for secondary which took about an hour because there were around thirty people before me.

Hi I am planning to go to Pakistan in couple of weeks and have a question regarding Special Registeration. Do we need to go to any local INS Office also for Registeration or whatever is done at the airport is enough. Any response is appreciated. Thanks

You don't need to go to local office, it will be done at the airport. Make sure you know the timings of Immigration officials at the airport you are departing from.

You are supposed to report your departure at the U.S airport of your international flight. For example if you fly from Florida to New York and from New York to Pakistan. You will report your departure at NY.

Mojority of Major airports have 24/7 service of Immigration officials but it's always good to check with them just in case.

You can get latest list of immigration counter operation from www.ice.gov website. I visited in 2006.

Just returned on a Hi-B visa

Aslamualaikum. I left for Hajj (via Pakistan) on November 24, 2007 and returned on Dec 30, 2007. On my way out (flying from Dallas to London Heathrow), I had my Special Registration done at Dallas (DFW) airport. It took about 20 minutes, I just had to wait in a room until someone came back with my passport (with an exit stamp). I'd also provided my H1-B work approval I-797 document and flight ticket with boarding pass to them.

On my return through Chicago airport, I was asked if I had done my exit special registration. I showed them the exit stamp. I was then asked to go for my secondary interview (as always, this is the entry special registration). This took 10 minutes because there was only one person infront of me. I had my fingerprints and digital photo taken. Simple questions about employer, reason for leaving etc. Looking at my customs form, I was asked if I'd gone to Saudi-Arabia for Hajj and I replied with an affirmative.

I asked what happens the next time I travel since I now have my Advance Parole document waiting for me at home. I was told I'd have to go through the same procedures minus the fingerprinting and photo. But I will have to report for my exit special registration and will have my entry secondary interview done also.

My advice would be to always show up a bit early for your international departure flight, check in your baggage, get your boarding pass and then have your exit special registration done. More time gives you peace of mind. I have left and returned several times over the past 3 years and it does get a bit nerve wrecking whenever there is little time left in your international flight and you are still waiting on the special registration folks to stamp your passport. Always good to have some time cushion incase you need to look for the special registration office or if it is in a different terminal, so you have time to return to your departure terminal in time also.

Good luck,

Jawad

AOA Jawad,
First of all, congratulations on your Hajj.
I assume that you already have a visa stamped in your passport that you have used to come back. If you have acquired a visa stamp while in Islamabad, please share your experience.

Walaikumaslam and thanks. I had gotten my H1-B visa stamped from Mexico prior to leaving for this trip. That was a whole episode in itself which I have documented here (also linked to my signature below). I'd heard of visa stamping delays from Islamabad so I decided to have it done from Mexico before I left.

Thanks,

Jawad
