I haven't been a big fan of immigrationportal.com (http://www.immigrationwatch.com) in the past but they actually seem to have some useful stats these days. They're maintaining a list of recent I-485 (and other) approvals which seems to be getting updated every few weeks. I'm not sure if they have *every* case in their database but they seem to be tracking a lot of cases.

The most recent update shows 344 I-485 approvals over the last few weeks (between 10/25/04 and 11/13/04).

The highlights (some of my numbers might be a bit off -- I counted pretty quickly):

+9 2004 cases approved in the last ~2 weeks including one with a RD of 04/07/04

+decent activity in all months of 2003 (20-30 or so cases approved for each of Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr)

+52 June 03 cases approved

+35 July 03 cases approved

+15 Aug 03 cases approved

+6 Sep-Dec 03 cases approved in the last 3 weeks (so more 2004 activity recently than for those 4 months combined)...

+96 2002 approvals (out of 344 total -- most are from 2003)

+doesn't appear to show transfers (which are probably happens to at least 50% of all cases these days...)

I am not happy with what they say

I485--Adjustment of Status (Vermont Service Center), EAC032095****

Based on the processing record of the same type of cases in this center, statistics analysis shows:
Percent of cases filed around your case's filing date which have been approved: 10.0%

On average(50-50), your case may be approved around:
02/11/07

If you are lucky(75-25), your case may be approved around: 06/01/05

Their estimates seem to be somewhat questionable but the recent approvals numbers and also their historical stats seem to be very useful, as long as they keep updating them. They seem to be tracking 87459 2003 I-485 cases btw, which does seem like it could be *all* of them for that year (based on roughly 400 cases per day X about 260 business days in the year).

BTW, for my ND of 10/23/03, I get:

  • Percent of cases filed around your case's filing date which have been approved:
    1.05%

  • On average(50-50), your case may be approved around:
    05/26/07

  • If you are lucky(75-25), your case may be approved around:
    09/15/05

It's possible that one big problem with the site is that they don't take transfers into account -- if they are still tracking all transferred cases as unapproved then this would definitely make it look like there's been a lot less "progress" than is actually the case (although transferred cases can certainly take a while to work their way through the local service centers).
