I came back to the US on March 10th (POE Chicago) after successful CP. I got my passport stamped and so on. I was wondering if anyone knows how long will it take to get the actual green card in the mail. I would appreciate if anyone could share their timeline in receiving it.

Welcome to USA

i got my GC after 46 days since i hd entered and I got SSN within 2 weeks.I recieved welcome letter 2 times after 25 days:) thats mean GC is on the way:). use your passport as ID until you hv recieved your GC and once you have got GC ans SSN, get driving licence so you do not have to bear GC and passport with you thats it.

so there is no actual time period but most of all people get GC within 6 months dont worry, within 1 months you get it via mail(ordinary).just check it in time. good luck

Lawful permanent residents are required to be in possession of their green card at all times. Failure to do so is a misdemeanor.

yes it is true but once you have driving card instead state ID no problem because on driving licence when you are permanent it is for 4 years validity unlike 2 years or else it is depand on your another status.on the other hand you can get state ID (most of american hold driving licence or state ID)with 24 dollers showing your PR proof etc,and you can hold it for that state on which, it is clearly noted that you are PR.

Police always verify driving licence or state ID number that are contain your whole information on system.

it is for New jersey state law and may be differ in other state regulation.

Although there has never been anyone prosecuted for not being in possession of their greencard, the law states that it is a misdemeanor not to have it on you regardless of what state you are from. Some laws are not enforceable and this is definitely one of them.

having a driver's license or a State ID has nothing to do with your LPR status. Usually, the DL/State ID don't indicate your LPR status. IN some states the DL is valid only for the validity of your non-immigrant status, and that status may be indicated. In other states, a non-immigrant's DL is the sames as a US citizen's DL.
