Received green card!

Thank you :)

I think I was the only one to apply for a green card without a lawyer. When we went for the interview, everyone there had one, it was hilarious. I think we were also the only ones who were genuinely happy to be there!

Okay, firstly, we arrived a little late (love LA traffic), but, it was all fine. We managed to get there about 20 minutes after the interview time. We went up to the office, and handed the receptionist our interview letter. She told us to take a seat and wait for someone to call my name. About 15 minutes later, the Supervisor came out and said "You're late, but, I will find a slot for you." Another 20 minutes goes by, and the Supervisor calls us in for the interview. He takes us into the office and asks me "So, you're Singaporean?", and proceeds to ask me my heritage (I don't look like a typical Singaporean). After a little general banter about LA in general and apologising profusely about being late, he began the interview by asking me my address. Questions are listed below with number of times he asked them:
*When we got married (2)
*Address in America (4) He asked both myself and my husband this question numerous times.
*How many people attended the wedding (2) Husband got it wrong!!! LOL
*My birthday (2)
*My husbands birthday (asked me once, asked my husband once)
*Wedding date (1)
*Joint sponsor's place of birth (stumped us on this one)(1)
*Joint sponsor's name(1)
*My parent's names and spelling(1)
*My husband's peevious marriage (1)
*Asked to see original divorce certificate of my husband's last marriage (1)
*Asked to see our marriage certificate (1)
*Asked to see evidence of joint sponsorship (1) All we had was our joint bank statement, that's it!
*Asked how we met (which was actually a funny story and made him laugh) (1)
*Asked how many years we have been together (1)
*Asked if I work (1)
*Asked my husband if he works (1)
*Asked me questions about Singapore that only a Singaporean would know
*Asked me about a food court that not many people know about except Singaporeans to which my husband and I had a bit of an argument, which made him approve us immediately!!!! LOL. It was at the end of the interview.

He asked to see the following items:
*My birth certificate
*My passport
*My husband's passport and drivers licence
*Marriage certificate
*Divorce certificate
*Joint bank statement (well, joint ownership evidence)
*We had brought other items such as pictures and cards, but he didn't even care to see them or ask for them.

Note well: TAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU BRING, SUCH AS YOUR BIRTH CERTS ETC, BECAUSE THEY WILL WANT THE COPY!!!!!!!! ANYTHING YOU SHOW IS EVIDENCE AND HE WILL TAKE IT!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE ONLY THE ORIGINAL, OFFER THE COPY AND SHOW THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

In any case, the whole interview took about 20 minutes, which I've heard to be quite long, but, we had an older gentleman who genuinely wanted to talk to us and get to know us as people. Also, when he welcomed me to America, it was genuine and heartfelt and he was really happy for us.

In hindsight, I think it did help that we were completely comfortable around eachother, and could laugh at ourselves and eachother :) Lol. Don't be nervous, just be yourselves. I'm so happy we were ourselves and not really that nervous, after all, you have nothing to hide. If you do, they will figure it out :) But if you don't, then, just be yourself :)

Good luck everyone with your interviews, and don't be nervous, like I said, just be yourself and go prepared :) Just fulfill their requirements and what they are asking for, and you'll be fine. They will have every piece of paper that you have sent them in one huge file.

Wow, long post. Hope it helps.
