Receipt notice?

Hi,

I filed my I-485 (130,765), with all the required fees and documents on Monday. It was signed for on Wednesday 04/13. I was wondering what a receipt notice is, and when usually people get it. I know I am supposed to get a Notice of Action after some weeks, but I was wondering if I was supposed to receive something else before, which would allow me to check my status online.

Thanks a lot!

You won’t get anything before the receipt notices, but there is a way to get your case number faster then that. When USCIS cashes your check for I-485 whey will stamp your case number on the back.
If you do your banking on-line, then you might get an image of your cashed check before the actual NOA arrives. Look for the three letters, followed with ten digest.

My cashed checks did not have any case numbers on it. (These checks were sent to the NBC at the Chicago lockbox).

Only cases filed in any of the service centers will have the actual case number printed on a back of the check.
Recent application, sent to Chicago box, with a check cashed in Chicago, won’t have that number, since it was assigned later in MSC. Recent applicants have to wait for a receipt, I guess…unless somebody else knows some other way to “pick” at the case number before the NOA?

Thanks a lot to all of you for the info, I'll be sure to keep an eye on it, and check the bank account too often :p

Do you know approximately how long it usually takes for the receipt notice to arrive from the day one files the forms?

Thank you again!

I also kept eyes on my Bank account. This is the first time I felt good about getting my check cleared and lowering my bank balance. :p
You can see in my timeline that it took 12 days to get me a receipt notice from the day I filed.

Ditto to that! :) :)

After I sent out my application I went ahead and signed up for an automatic balance
e-mails to be sent to my work every morning.
So, every morning I would get an e-mail from my bank and the balance was high for about two weeks and then - one day the money was gone and it made me so happy and relived! Funny! I’m laughing at myself now! :p :p :p
