Re-Sign Docs appoint. after approval at ID

Hello, everyone!

Could you please say what it may mean? I had my interview 2 weeks ago. The officer said that everything is fine and gave me the approval notice. He said that I should expect OL within a month. I am not changing my name and my case is pretty straight-forward (I think).

But 2 days ago I got a letter (Form G-56) asking to come back in 2 weeks to re-sign the naturalization application and photos. I did sign everything at the interview and the officer even checked that all is correct and clear (full name in cursive). The letter says to bring only the appointment letter and the green card.

I am pretty worried as I thought everything was ok. Why this new appointment? What should I expect at this new appointment? Should I bring all documents again just in case?

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Wow, that sounds scary....Where was your district office?
On the other hand, it could be just a simple administrative mistake.
Perhaps, they just lost your paper and photos?
Anyway, if I were you, I would bring all the copies and supporting documents for the new appointment.

Thank you for replies.

Bobsmyth, i answered all questions in N-400 truthfully and there is nothing in my past to be worried about - no arrests, no traffic tickets, no unpaid taxes, etc. So i don't understand why they want me to re-sign the application. Is this a new interview or some formality?

Happy New Year to everyone.

Waterman00, the letter I got is FORM G-56.

This is the info on the form:

• Address of the USCIS office which issued the form
• Date the form was completed

• My A-file number
• My name and address

• Address of the USCIS office where I must go (the same which issued the form)

• Date and hour (two choices of dates, one week apart from each other, time is the same)

• Ask for (the officer who interviewed me at the first ID)

• Reason for the appointment: Re-sign the naturalization application and photos

• Bring with you: this letter, your resident alien card, and : (there is no more info about what to bring).

Then it says that if you are unable to come, state your reason and return this letter to the office below at once (but there is no information below about the office, the info is in the top). There is a box to put information if unable to attend for reason, signature, and date.

Then it has the name of the District Director Services (but no signature)

I googled this form and found that some people receive G-56 before their official ID and it's a normal interview scheduled earlier. But I got it after the ID. I do remember to sign N-400 and photos in front of the officer, so I don’t understand why they ask me to come again, but don’t say to bring any other documents. I plan to bring all my documents again just in case.

If someone received this form after N-400 interview, please write.

it sounds like your interview went well the 1st time.

Don't be alarmed about this.

The IO probably figured the signatures weren't legible or something. This letter is not necessarily a bad thing. Just take the requested docs and get it over with. This will probably take 5 min.

Good Luck and don't worry too much.

Follow-up:

Waterman00, you were right. This re-sign appointment was just a formality. At the interview, I printed my name on the N-400 and photos, but it must be written as a signature, cursive (like Italic in Word). So I did have to re-sign it. A week after this re-sign appointment I got my oath letter. :)
