Re-entry to US after being banned for 10yrs

Hey everyone
I have a couple questions for anyone that can help me out.
Well i recently returned from the US after being down there for 20 out of the last 24 months. My reason for being down there that long as to help for aunt out on her ranch.
When i crossed the border i was told that i was banned for returning to the us for 10yrs and that if i tried i would be through in jail. As well the lady who was dealing with me never gave me any paper work or anything just a verbal lashing on what my issue were.
Anyhow i was wondering what my options would be to first of all seeing if she was just saying that and second of all if its true then what i can do to get cleared to return to the us.

Thanks

Were you turned away, or you got the verbal bashing but were allowed entry?
Did you attempt a US entry AFTER your 20 months trip and were caught living in the US for 20 months? It would help if you can post the exact times involved and your last entry experience.

Thanks for your reply Triple Citizen
I was in the US for 10 months (from Jan 06 to Oct 06)
And when i returned to Canada i was told since i had been there that long and lived off of my family ( my aunt) that i was being charged with illegal immigration and such (not sure what i got charged with excatlyt and was not given any paperwork) but i did have to swear under oath and sign that oath statement once it was printed. And then was told verbally i could not return for 10yrs and if i tried i would be thrown in jail.
So any help on what i should do or what i can to ? to be able to re-enter the US .

Thanks again so much.

Do you remember what exactly you signed? It does not look good. I have a feeling you signed away your admission of illegal presence in the US. This has gone beyond the expertise of this forum. I strongly advise you to seek help from an experienced immigration lawyer.
