Hi All,

Here is my timeline for a re-entry permit;

RD: May 23rd 2005
ND: May 24th 2005
Issued: Sept. 14th 2005

I haven't gotten the document yet, but I am happy to know that this is the last RTD I will ever be applying for (God-Willing). :-)

Is this 'Reentry Permit' or Refugee Travel Document (RTD)?
he is a greencard holder so its reentry permit expire in two year and then hopfully he will get his American Passport by that time.
We all cross our fingers for you.

You are correct nasrmobin!

I am indeed a permanent resident and have applied for the re-entry permit since it is economical to do so. And I thank you for your crossed-fingers - I can't wait until I apply for citizenship and I'm finally done with dealing with CIS. If I never have to see another RTD/Re-entry application again it will be too soon! :D

Best wishes Lolali on your way to Citizenship. My problem is that
I have to visit UAE for a few days next year, actually my first trip overseas in all these years. I checked the UAE website and they do not entertain RTDs or Re-Entry permits. Only NPs. If I get my PP issued, wont that create a problem for me at the time of naturalisation? I do need to go there to see some friends and family. I have also heard that Re-entry permit is only for those whose I-485 is pending. I just got my GC. Anyone????

You know - the re-entry permit is for all GC holders and is valid for 2 years. It allows GC holders to stay outside the US for up to 2 years. IT also serves as a travel document for those who want to take short trips. This is what it says on the CIS.gov web site:

Re-Entry Permit
Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders) use re-entry permits to re-enter the U.S. after travel of one year or more. For LPR’s returning to the U.S., re-entry permits are generally valid for two years from the date of issuance of the re-entry permit. The LPR should apply for this benefit before leaving the U.S.

Advance parole is for those who's I-485 is pending. And as for you renewing your NP - i would highly recommend that you do NOT do this. It really triggers 'fraud' when it comes to the attention of CIS. I would suggest you meeting your relatives in a neutral 3-party country that would allow you to use a travel document for entry.

Good luck. I hope you find a way to your loved ones.

re-entry permit is for those people with GC and wants to stay out of the US for more than a year, Since you got you GC you are one of those, it lasts for two years.
I was planning to go Dubai last year, they dont accept Travel Document either. I dont know what to do.
without NP i think we just can go to Germany as many time we want till we get American Passport:)
Goodluck.
keep us posted if you got any news
Thanks

Thank you Lolali and Nasr. Lolali, I just love the way you reply full of compassion and understanding. Reminds me of the good ol days of Gilbert, Alanpero and yourself!! It is so good to have you back in the forum! the problem is LOLALI that I cannot afford to meet in a Europeon country/city. Dubai or Sharjah or anywhere in "UAE or Saudiarabia are the only affordable places I could see my family. I'm not sure where but I did read somewhere that we can use our PPs for travel as long as we dont visit our home country..Have you come across this??

Although some people here may argue otherwise, I personally think that applying for a National Passport after you have been adjusted to a Permanent Resident status will not cause any problem(s) for naturalization. You may be asked why you did the renewal but in the end the officer will have no legal grounds to deny your citizenship based on this. Furthermore, like you mentioned, the fact that some countries do not accept USCIS travel documents will also make it very unlikely for USCIS to go after you and/or rescind your PR status just because you renewed your NP.

Applying for NP can only be a problem if your I-485 is still pending since an Asylee cannot claim any benefits from the country of persecution; it also may raise a question with the I-485 adjudicating officer of your continued status as an Asylee.

Thank you Jackdanie7, that is exactly my theory too. But from what I have read on this forum, most of the members do not advice it. Hence the confusion. Although, even my lawyer has told me that I can get the NP. But the cloud of doubt is too dark...

Is reentry permit a kind of papaer with your picuter on it or it is a stamp needs to be stamped on your RTD or NP? Will you have trouble travel with NP outside US( NOT BACK TO YOUR ORGINAL COUNTRY) and come back with your GC, reentry permit and NP?

Rentry permit is a green document the same as Refugee travel document but with "Rentry Permit" written on it and the validity as 2 years.

I think you should be careful in renewing your NP because you never know what will happen in 4 years. Lots of folks did not have to fill the I-602 before but have to now because of 9/11..so i would recommend NOT to renew your national passport just to be safe.

With USCIS nothing is guaranteed..Its true that they may not take your Green Card but its also true that they may..And every U.S citizen applicant goes through an interview....So remember that! Also how you got your G.C is sure to be brought up in the interview.
