RE-Entry Permit Question

Anybody knows that what is the number to call INS from oversea? Right now I live in Toronto, Canada. I dialed (800) 375-5283. But it didn't work. I need to call them to update the mailing address in order to get my re-entry permit resent since the original one has been returned back by post office. I guess they sent it to my previous address in U.S.A.

Thanks in advance!

luk12,

which addresses did u specify on the Reentry permit form ?
Did u also file AR-11 ?

VKS,
I filled out my previous address in US on I-131 application and requested the document to be sent to US consulate at Toronto. I also gave my current address in Toronto for the notice to pick up re-entry permit to be sent. I haven't changed address in US even the address in there is invalid now since I moved out of the apartment. I didn't file AR-11. I know sometimes people gave their friends' address for mailing purpose. In that way, you have to file AR-11 to notify INS that you have changed address and also need to get driver's license changed and also bank account, credit card. I thought it is too complicated. I just simply didn't change anything and told my bank and credit card company not send me any statements and mails. I get everything from online, I mean the statements.

does anyone knows if you can apply for REP outside(l know that you can;t legally, but if there are any other ways to do it from the outside()?????
thnkz

No, you cannot, legally. If done otherwise it becomes illegal, and it can land you into a lot of trouble, including losing your permanent resident status.

My re-entry perimit was approved on Oct 4, 2005. Unfortunately I didn't get the approval notice. The online message has been changed to "Our last written notice in this case was returned as undeliverable by the post office on October 27, 2005. To update the mailing address so this notice can be re-sent, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283." since end of October.
I currently stay in Toronto, Canada. There is no way for me to dial the 1800 number given here. I tried to write to Nebraska Service Center, Where I filed my Re-entry perimit, to request the notice to be resent to my oversea address in Toronto. But nothing happened so far. Then I contacted US consulate in Toronto, Canada by mail. Still nothing happened. How should I do? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I think ur best bet is to contact USCIS other than phone. ( or ask the consulate whether they have another number to call form canada)
but if u cannot then find a friend in US who can do a conference call (a friend who is willing to wait that long) with the 1800 number. ( there is no way this 1800 number would work from canada becuase this is US only 800 number- ss7 protocol)
or as i said earlier- take the hour drive to niagara - and call US. if u havea cellphone - then if its US roaming - u can call.

I asked my friend in US to set up a three way calling and so I got connected to the 1800 number. It is a brilliant idea. Thanks, TheEnquirer.

I got chance to speak to immigration representative. I was told that they sent out the approval notice to my previous address in US and the actual travel document to US consulate in Toronto. The approval notice got returned back and that is why the online message has changed to ""Our last written notice in this case was returned as undeliverable by the post office on October 27, 2005. To update the mailing address so this notice can be re-sent, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283."
She suggested that I should contact US consulate in Toronto. I mentioned to her that a US consul from Ottawa, Canada told me that I have to pick up the Re-entry permit at Toronto airport and it never goes to the consulate. It is kind of strange for me. I thought I should wait for a notice from the consulate to pick up the Re-entry permit at the consulate. So I didn't go. The representative clearly stated to me that the travel document went to US consulate in Toronto and I should follow what the consul said to pick up the document. So I went to the toronto airport today. I got the document and feel kind of relieved.

I wish I did this early. At the mean time, I am still a little bit pissed off about the fact why they didn't send me a notice to my current oversea address for picking up the travel document. Anyway, it is over. What a experience. What I learned that you have to track it down by yourself. Nobody else is responsible for it.
