Re-entry from Canada: Drive or fly in?

I am an F1 student in the US left in an out-of status situation requiring travel and re-entry. The time of re-entry into US is of importance, and I am trying to choose between driving to the US from the border versus flying into US from Canada - which would be the smoothest experience?

Your post is not clear, but are you out of status? If that is the case, regardless of your mode of transportation, you will be in potential trouble upon seeking re-entry into the US.
