Re-Entry/Domestic Violence Conviction

Hey there,

I was convicted of Domestic Violence march/april of 2003 and was jailed at the county jail for this misdemeanor offence for almost 6 months. I am now divorced from this woman and live in a different state. I have visitation with my daughter and I am traveling out of the country in November...

I previosuly went home to England in Dec/Jan of 04 (obviously after the conviction and sentance) and was delayed at the airport with imigration but ultimately allowed re-entry...

So I guess my question is, after reading these boards, what is the chance I will be denied re-entry this time????

I am a little worried, but my Mum is paying for me and I really feel I need to go home... Yet I have a good job and obviously my Daughter here also...

Thanks for your help

Do you have an immigration lawyer?
Depending on the officer at the POE, you may get into the same or more trouble.
A lawyer can tell you better, based on the exact circumstances, what problems to expect. Domestic violence is always a hairy issue.

No I don't and I never really thought about it. In fact I can't really afford one with child support and everything... That's why my Mum is paying for my flight, but she can barely afford it (in fact if she hadn't already paid I would tell her not to bother)

I live in Indianapolis, but with what I earn they would say I could afford it... But the deifinition is what sucks... I live alone and it's hard to pay for everything and still meet the bills each month.... I'm bankrupt and can't afford $100 or more (Do you think it would be something that could be addresed simply in one visit??? or even a phone call)...

orpheuswaking,

Check with a member named "JohnnyCash" in Citizenship forum. He is a very good person and who has thorough knowledge in immigration laws, bankruptcy laws and matrimonial laws etc. He is an attorney by profession as well.

I have seen him helping many people in citizenship forum.

But, not sure whether you would be able to catch him at this time, being a friday/weekend.

Good luck.
