Chicago73 -

Congratulations on your approval! It's so nice to come to work in the morning and find a fellow immigrant approved for I-485 :)

I have a question for you, Chicago73. You said you got no RFE and if you remember what documents you submitted to BCIS, could you please share with this forum? I want to make sure I have submitted all the documents that you have submitted.

Again, congratulations and enjoy your freedom!

To Ghareeb and all

My company attorney handled all the filing process since 1999 (all through my H1, I-140, labor, EAD's etc.). I am with the same employer since the whole process started. I assumed they have provided all the necessary documentations since the case is approved without RFE. I had contacted two local senators in July this year and they promised me with a letter that they would follow up on my case and let me know something in a 30 to 60 days timeframe. That may (or may not) have helped to speed up my process. Let me know if you guys have any more questions.

Congratulations,

My RD is also 24th Oct 01. Still waiting No RFE or nothing so far.

When did you do your FP(s) ?.

Thanks

I want to share this with all of you after I email some questions to my attorny.

My questions:

How would the interview look like ? How should we prepare for it ? What are the documentations they ask and what I need to have particularly from my employer ? Do we need to have a lawyer accompany us ?

After the stamping is done, how safe is it to travel outside of the
United States incase we do not receive the plastic card before our
planned trip ?

The last but not the least, how early we can start our Citizen-ship
process and do your firm provide this service ?

Answers:

You are not going to have an interview. As soon as you receive your approval notices in the mail, you can go to the INS office
with 2 green card style photographs and photo i.d. and get your passport
stamped. You don't need anything from your employer and an attorney doesn't
need to accompany you. It's very perfunctory. They won't ask you any
questions, it's just a matter of showing them your passport, approval notice
and pictures and that's it. Unfortunately, you will not get an appointment
so you'll have to get there early and wait in line. They are open Mon-Thurs
at 7:30 a.m. As soon as you they stamp your passport, you can work and
travel freely by showing your stamp. After the stamping, it takes anywhere
from 3-12 months to get the actual plastic card in the mail.

You can start your citizenship process after 4 years and 9 months after your permanent residency.

Thank you.

What you all think about this ? I will be ready with everyting though (as advised by the forum members).

Answer from the attorny

Answer from the attorny:

You can change employers immediately and that will not affect your citizenship at all. That was a concern in the past but due to extremely lenghty processing times, but now it's not a worry. In fact, one can change employers even before getting their I-485 approval now.

Thanks everyone !

I am curious (I really hope it's true) as to the comment that you can switch employers anytime due to lengthy processing. We've been told all along that it was imprudent to leave before 6 months (at least) in order to establish that there was an intent to stay permanently. Does anyone else have remarks from their lawyers on this or information on webpages?

sadiq
