The receipt date is when your application was submitted to their office. The notice date is when they actually take a look at it and mark it for processing (i\'m not sure what goes on here - i\'m just guessing), and that\'s when they send you a receipt notice. The application date they refer to henceforth is the Notice Date, and I think that\'s the date that all further processing keys off of.
