Quitting my H1B job. Going back to school. What do I need to do?

Hi,

After 4 years working as a an H1B worker, I have decided to quit and go to graduate school. I have been accepted to a graduate program at MIT, I will be sponsored by the school with a Research Assistanship. I start classes in September.

My last official day of work, and my last paycheck, is on Sunday July 31.

I am leaving the US on Wednesday July 27 and I have an appointment at the US consulate of my home country on Friday July 29 to get my F1 visa.

Is there anything my employer needs to do? Do they have to actively inform the INS about this? My employer seems clueless.

Would it be good to get a letter from my company before I leave stating that I am no longer an employee? Will my current H1B visa have any adverse effect on the approval of my F1?

Any info on what to do after quitting an H1B job would be appreciated.

Thanks

YES. Now you have to prove the US Counsel in India that you do not have any immigration intention. Did you apply LC or I 140 in your 4 yrs stay in US.
If you get your F1 stamped in your pp, please post your experience in this forum .

Did you say "YES" to all of my questions? Sorry, I am not sure :-)

I did not apply for permanent residency or anything like that.

How can I prove that I do not intend to have permantent residency?

BTW I am not Indian, I am from Mexico.

Thanks!

Student Visa category, every non -immigrant has to prove that they will come back to Mexico after Studies in US (In Reality every body going to stay in US, but counsel has to make sure you have property or parents or spouse in your home country- family ties)

I don't think you will face any problem in Mexico. Good Luck.

Got F1 visa stamped on passport

Just reporting that I got the visa. It was very quick. Not many questions asked. I have heard the name of the school matters, so I guess that helped too.
