Quick question!

Hi all,

Once you stamp your passport with I-551 stamp, does the officer put it in the system when he/she gives the visa? The reason I am asking is because I got stamped my passport after an interview and I am still waiting for the plastic and the message for my case is still saying my case was transferred.

Am I now permanent resident in the USCIS records?

thx,

You are safe to travel

spartakus,

As far as I know, one can travel abroad with just the I-551 stamp in the passport. The officers at the POE recognize the stamp and will let you in. I am not sure if they have another online system that tells them that you are a premanent resident without actually scanning the GC but people have not had problems travelling with just the stamp and no physical card.

Did not answer my question

Hi Khush, saras76,

Thanks for your responses,I know the stamp is good for traveling, my question is:
Is my record as permanent resident in the system or the USCIS database or is the stamp on my passport the only proof I am a permanent resident?

regards,
Spartakus

If you are referring to on-line messages, I think that they are just there to facilitate (well, supposedly!) communication btw the CIS and its customers. So on-line messages cannot be considered as official. True, CIS officers sometimes make exceptions, like they might stamp your passport when you only bring a copy of on-line message or email for your approval.

i-551 STAMP. ETC.

Yes, there is a system on line that links the permanent residence not merely within BCIS, but also to Social Security Administration. By your name and A# they can access your permanent residence record.
