quick question on passport for minor

Today I went to USPS to submit passport application for my minor son. They did not accepted our application as we were not having marriage certificate. My situtation is that I don't have my marriage certificate at present and need to travel urgently with my family. I don't think they have mentioned about marriage certificate anywhere in the application booklet. Any suggestions from this forum asap please?

I am trying to get my marriage certificate from my home country. If I get this and submit, are they going to return it along with the passport?

Also don't use the birth certificate issued by Indian consulate to apply for US passports. They are not accepting birth certificate issued by consulate as original.

if your child was born here, his/her birth certificate should be enough. All originals submitted will be returned separately from the passport in mail.

Brokenarrow,

Thanks for your input. My child wasn't born here and that might be one of the reasons many documents are needed.
