I am a Doctor from India. Currently I am in the US for an exam(USMLE), and I have applied for Residency (Post graduation in Medicine) in US.
My stay i 94 expires in early jan '07. My problem is that the hospitals continue interviews till end of january.
My questions are :
1.would it be advisable for a candidate like me to go in for an extension for a period of 20 days or so?
I had heard that candidates like me ( doctors planning to work in US), its not advisable to get a visa extension because it might create problems for me when i convert to a work visa ( H1 or J1). I have actually heard of some cases who's work visa (H1/J1) got rejected in Mumbai consulate, and incidentally, they had extended their stay visa when in US.
2. If the application gets rejected before the i 94 expires ( say by 2 weeks before) do i have to leave immediately or i can stay uptill two more weeks.
3. Do i have to send the original I 94 or a copy for application, have got different views from forums and people
thanks a lot
