questions on H1, when to start?

Hello!

Just a few questions on the H1B visa allocations:

- I know they are now processing the forms for financial year 2007, which starts in October 2006, but do I have to start work in October 2006, or can I ask to postpone it til January/February 2007?
- If I don't apply for this year, I take it I can't apply til April 2007 to start October 2007?
I ask because i is bonus time in January 2007, and I don't really want to lose out on that if I can help it!

You can apply for H1 visa before 6 month in advance. If your start date is 1st January 2007 then you can apply only after 1st July 2006. By that time there may not any new H1 visa be available. So file new H1 ASAP.

if you were applying for H1 from abroad, or you were applying without COS in the US, you can set start data in Oct, and start working in Jan. You need H1 stamp in these cases.
