Questions on H-1B1 Renewal

My H-1B1 visa will be expired at the end of this year. I am going to apply renewal now. However, I have some questions here:

1). What kinds of documentations need for H-1B1 Renewal? Is it same as new
H-1B1 appplication?

2). If I can't get it approved before my expired date, can I still work? Or,
Should I wait for the renewal approval?

When you apply for the renewal, you automatically get a 240 day extension, which will allow you to work.
