Please write you experiances what questions are asked at the port of entry. They took me to side room and checked my EAD, H1B and passports. Asked few questions about employer, when GC was applied etc.

I am planning to fly out for work related matters to UK in 3 weeks. What more questions should I be expecting. My spouse will also be with me. Would they ask her at POE?

thanks

It is strage that they questioned you about your employer while entering on AP.
May be you name check triggered a security alert?

I came to Chicago. And next week I am flying to London for work. I am taking my wife also with me. I was wondering what questions do they ask to dependents?

Actually when we entered (via Detroit) in mid jan, it was pretty smooth. Almost no questions were asked, and the AP was stamped and a copy given back. All they looked at was a copy of the I485 pending letter.

When you entered US, at POE did officer stamped your passport and gave you stamped AP at the counter or did they took you to side room.

My wife will be coming alone before me after our short vacation. I am worried that they should not harrass her.

thanks

When we came in we were at the visitor line (though kids had us passport).
The officer then asked us to go the us citizen/GC line (where he said they would be expecting us).
Everything subsequently was done at the counter, around 15 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Interesting. So if your kid has US citizenship, you dont have to stand in line for 'aliens'. :D Shweet!

mydearcard:

I returned to Chicago 3 weeks ago on my AP. I am a derivative applicant and I was travelling alone. The process took 2-3 minutes:

- The officer asked me for my passport, I-94 and original AP.
- He asked me what kind of I-485 filing it was - employment or family based.
- He checked something on his computer which he evidently found satisfactory - guess my name didn't raise a security alert:)
- He asked me if I had a copy of the AP for him. I did. I handed that to him.
- He stamped my original AP, my I-94 and my passport and returned them. He kept the copy of my AP.

And that was it.

Oh, he also asked if it was warm in India:)

In case they asked for other documentation at the POE, I was also carrying with me -
- Copy of my/my husband's I-485 receipt notices
- Original and copies of my EAD
- All 3 original APs and copies (one of which he kept)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for detailed reply, hope they won't ask my wife any thing. I will tell your experiance also to my wife. I hope she wont have any problems. She never had any bad experiances earlier also.
Regarding me, well I am always grilled even when I was traveling on H1B also. Even in domestic flights also they always check me. I am used to screening. I guess either I am ugly or my mother dresses me bad. :p

thanks

I-485 receipt notice

We never received I-485, EAD, and AP receipt notices. Appearnatly they got lost in the mail. I called USCIS and they said they can not e-mail another copy. However, we got AP, EAD in less than three weeks. Also, we had finger prints letter that was stamped at the time of finger prints. Would this letter be enough proff that we submitted I-485 when coming back to the states using AP?

Thanks

SAMBOCICO: Talk to your lawyer. There better be way to get some information of 485 submission than your FP stuff. I believe 485 receipt is quite an important document. Maybe your lawyer has a copy?

I filed everything by my self. I do not have a lawyer. I called USCIS and they said they can not send a second receipt notice. Although the finger print document show that we have applied for AOS, I will try one more time with them then.

Maybe if you take an infopass and go to one of the local centers, they might give you a copy of the receipts. Just thinking loud. When you enter on AP, there should be some more proof you should be carrying. Another idea, call one of the Airport and talk to one of the immigration officers. They might tell you what they shall accept in lieu of those papers. just ideas...
