Guys,

I need to take the I-485 medical exam for me and my wife. How big is the procedure? Is it just a one day visit to the doctor or we need to see the doctor several times, assuming that we are healthy enough to pass the medical exam? Also my wife is in the early months of her pregnancy. Does this affect the way medical exam should be done? Appreciate any response.

Thanks

It will be 1 day visit for you and may be second visit if the check for TB, your wife may have to take letter from doctor that she is pregnent and they may just check her urine or blood, they will not take her X-ray.

since ur wife is pregnant, if she fails TB skin test [PPD] then she cannot have x-ray.
This means you wont have complete medicals done. also she cannot have MMR and TD shots as she is pregnant. Remember if you can somehow show proof that ur wife dosent need MMR and TD vaccines then u r fine else your medicals wont be complete until your new baby is born. Good Luck and congrats on the new baby.

Thanks for the reply, ginnu and fast_gc_seeker(Thanks for your wishes. We are thrilled at this wonderful feeling. Now we can't wait for the arrival of the baby!).

We are going to see the doctor and see how it goes for the exam. Just out of curiosity, is it allowed to file I-485 without the medical exam and later send the results?.

yes u can file 485 first and then send medicals once they r done or after u get RFE.

According to me your wife is exempt from taking vaccines if she is pregnant...the immigration doctor knows all this and will fill the form accordingly.

---yes, before I-485 approval you will get RFE for Medicals or you can submit earlier, you CAN submit now and your wife can send later when they ask and at this time with your wife I-485 attach letter of doctor that she is pregnent.
