Questions about GC issuances, addresses and schedules

Hi everybody!

That's my first post ;) and I got lot of questions since I received the NL. As you can see below, I’m from Europe and my CN is EU4xxx. I have been reading this forum since I got my NL, but I still have some questions. Sorry if some of them are answered in other posts :S

1.- I sent to KCC the forms, and I didn’t write the address I intend to live or any address in the States where my Green Card could be delivered (I wrote N/A). After reading some posts, I could see that I will need an American address at the interview. In other posts some say that the American address should be told to the officers the first time you go to the States using your GC (that is at your first POE). The question is: when do I need to say my American address?

2.- About the American Address, could I use forwarding mail services due to, at first, I wouldn’t live in the States? I have seen some forwarding companies (earth class mail, USA Mail 1…). Have you use any of them? Is it legal?

3.- As I got EU4xxx I think I could get the interview before December. That implies that I would receive the brown envelope before 2009 (if all is right :S ). How long could I wait to do the activation trip since I receive the brown envelope? I have read it is 6 month after receiving the brown envelope, is it true?

4.- After having received the brown envelope, could my entrance be denied for having waited so long (so long but within the supposed 6 month). I mean, after getting the brown envelope, do they keep my GC application during those 6 supposed months, or could GCs run out? (Supposing all of this dates are before September 2009, when the DV2009 ends).

5.- After my activation trip (one week or less) I will return to my country for a few months. That’s because I have to finish some studies I’ll start and because I would like to find a job in the US before leaving my present job. How long could I stay outside the States without having a problem? I have read that if the period is less than a year you don’t need a reentry permit, but your reentry could be denied due to other reasons. Could this reason be that I did the activation trip of one week and I left the country for 6 months before my real entry?

6.- I’ll show you an approximate time line, you may have had similar one in the past:
- NL: October 08
- Interview: November 08
- Activation trip: one week April 09 (one week or less)
- Being in Europe, doing courses & looking for a job in the US until: July 09
- Second and definitive trip: August or September 09

Would I have problems with my reentry after having stayed 4-5 month out of the States after my activation trip? What about addresses, how did you do it?

7.- Extra question :D. About Social Security Card, I wrote in the forms I wanted SSC, but I have read that people have to asking for it in a SS office when they go to the States. Should I ask for it too or would I receive it with my GC at my American Address?

Thanks a lot guys!!! ;)

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST and SORRY FOR MY MISTAKES :S

1. You need it a time of the interview
2. That should work.
3. 6 month from the date they issued the visa. Expiration date is written on the visa.
4. Never saw anyone denied entrance with a DV immigrant visa.
5. Not more then 364 days
6. Your time line looks good.
7. Maybe you receive your SSC, maybe not. Nobody knows, in many case the automatic option did not work.
