Questions about DV-2012 as a selectee

Hello all,

I had very exciting news this year when I found out in July I had been selected for further processing.

I just had some questions that I could use some input on from the collective wisdom here at the forums.

1. I am currently in Canada on a work visa, which started about 10 days after I had been selected. Before that I was in the USA as a tourist. Will that work against me at all?

2. I have not worked or been a resident in any particular country between November 2009 and july 2011, as I was traveling the world. Will this cause any problem?

3. My case number is 2012OC000012XX -- is this low?

4. I sent my application forms off to KCC with photos, but have not heard anything back yet. Should I be worried? When should I expect to hear back?

5. In line with question 4, I will be going to the UK for a month at the end of October. Is this a dumb decision -- will it work against me? Is there a chance they will schedule something this year, or will it likely not be until next year?

6. Is there are requirement for DV selectees to have proof of funds or a guarantor? I would not think so, as many people from developing countries would not have such funds, which would defeat the purpose of the lottery. I have a masters degree and can show that I will be able to obtain a work, but currently don't have a lot of savings (< $1000), does this matter?

Thankyou for any input!

Where did you get that from? I can't find anything on the official website. Do you have a source or a reference?

So your source is another user asking a question? There is nothing in the DV selectee instructions about this, so I am not convinced it is a set requirement for lottery winners.

Your case number isn't low, but you'll still get the interview around the middle of next year.
Read the DV2011 forum for Australian winners...they had similar questions. In essence, it's best to be extra cautious if you don't want to be disappointed. Your life story isn't of concern to them as long as you're eligible and can convince the CO you won't become a public charge in the United States.
