I just receive my Notice letter from Philadelphia INS. The question that i want to ask is that my receipt # is (PHI-******-**) and only 11 character instead of 13. Can i still check the status of my case with 11 character only?

I think it is your receipt number given local office as family based I-485 will be processed locally. You may not be able to check your I-485 status but give shot. Just for curiosity have applied for I130 also? If yes, is it 13 chars? Please let me know.

Family based I-485 cases are filed exclusively at local offices alongwith I-130. Filing of I-765 (For EAD) & I-131 (For AP) is optional. The receipt number given by local offices do not have a uniformity as compared to that issued by the service centers. You would not be able to check your status online for any of your applications (I-485, I-130, I-765 or I-131).

You may call the Customer Service # of CIS and they can give you approximate time taken by the local office (where you have applied) for each type of applications. There is no other way of knowing your individual application status without making a pilgrimage to the local CIS office and wasting your whole day.

Good Luck to all of us!
