Question using AP without EAD approval

My wife is travelling to INDIA in next 2 days, she has her AP approved but doesn't have her EAD approved yet. There was an RFE on her EAD.

1. Is she OK to travel to INDIA or do you think it would be a problem when she coming back to US. ? I heard from some people that you should have both EAD and AP approved before travel. As of now she only has Approved AP.

2. If EAD is also required while coming back, is it OK to send the approved EAD card to her once its approved. Which she could use it (if required) while coming back.

btw, i know that theoritically speaking only AP is required while coming back to US, but having heard from some prople that EAD is also required has raised me with these questions. Also my wife has a H4 valid until next year sept.

The EAD is not required for re-entry. In fact, the card says in big bold letters NOT VALID FOR RE-ENTRY TO THE US

Thanks "TheRealCanadian" for the reply. But heard from my friend recently that they(POE officer) checks for the "EAD" card also while entrying into US. Wasn't sure if EAD in any way is tried with the AP.

If you've EAD then there is no harm in carrying it although its NOT related in anyway to travel.

You really don't have to take your EAD with you.

Considering its an important document, I would rather not take it with me when I travel ( as if taking my passport is not risk enough ;) ).

What if your wife (who's on H4 now) does not want to work here at all .... I mean in that case who would waste money on EAD ??

Don't worry -- not having an EAD should really not matter for re-entry to the US.
