dear all,

my I-485 case was transferred to San Jose local office, and I finally did interview this morning.
It was OK, and after interview (about 15min.), INS guy finally said, "your case was approved. approval letter will be mailed in a few days."

But, the thing is that he did NOT stamp anything at my passport.
I read some other folk's posting, which mentioned that INS is supposed to stamp at passport.

did I do something wrong? why no stamping for me?
what stamping are they supposed to do at my passport?
I'm getting worried... please help me. thanks in advance...

Once you get the approval letter you go back to USCIS to get the stamp. One usually does not get stamped at the interview.

my I-485 interview story

I'm writing my I-485 interview experience shortly. I hope it will help someone
who has in the same situation with me. ^_^

my I-485 case was transferred to San Jose local office on Apr. 1, 2004,
and I finally did interview on May, 18, 2004.

our appointment was at 10:00 AM, I went to office about 9:20 AM.
They called us at exact 10:00 AM.
(we wore just casual clothes. Jean, shirts, etc.)

Interviewer was a tall white guy.
He did finger printing to me first, and ask very basic questions such as
address, social security #, date of birth, my company name, any crime record
(of course, I didn't have anything). and finally asked employment verification
letter. That's it! less than 3 min!

after more questions to my wife, finally we are approved!!
but, there was no stamps on my passports.
we got approval letter after a few days, and heard that we have to go to INS again if we want to get stamp.

We are waiting to get real green card by mail.
I hope all of you have a good news soon!

Yes, you need to go again with ADIT pictures (they might take your FP and signatures again). They cannot provide plastic card unless you provide them your ADIT pictures.

Hi,

I am in the same boat as you. My interview was done last week, everything went well, officer told me that he will mail my I-485 approval in mail.

Did you receive your approval in mail? How long it took to get your approval?

I am still waiting for my I-485 approval (4 days passed)?

What will be the next step after receving an approval?

Your experience/ suggestion will help me.

Thanks in advance,
Raj

raj_021 don't worry

you will receive it very soon. I got worried too but I finally received it after 7 days. Wait a few more days and you should have it.
After the approval, i went to the INS and got I-551 stamp on passport which is basically temporary proof of status for 1 year.
Waiting for the card arrive in the mail.

hi, gc_hopefully

no. I didn't get real green card yet.
my friends told me that it would take a few months to get green card.

by the way, did you get I-551 stamp?
I wanted to get it, but my lawyer said, I should be in the situation of travel (ex. plane ticket) or EAD expiration(< 90 days).
Which situation were you in?
