Urgent-Question regarding study abroad in my home country

Hi
I'm new to here and this is my first post, I hope i could get some helps from you guys. :)

I was granted derivative asylee thru my mom, now i have a green card under category AS8. I wonder if it is okay for me to study abroad in my home country thru my current schools international exchange program. If I do go I think i will be staying there at least 6 months.
hope to hear some advise from you.

Thanks.

You're free to go study in your homeland.

do i need to apply for the reentry permit?
also if i stay longer than 6 months.
does the time for applying citizenship starts over again?
like i have to wait for another 5 years?

Althought I cannot answer your question directly, I think you can find all the answers on BCIS's web site's citizenship application requirements. Yes you need to apply for reentry permit if you plan to leave for more than 6 months.

you only need reentry permit if you travel outside the US for more than 6 months and less than 2 years. If you are going to be out for less than 6 months then you dont need a reentry permit.

I am sure some other people can help with other questions about your time of citizenship

The third type of residency requirement is related to the length of any trips abroad. As mentioned above, trips that last less then 6 months are generally not a problem. However, trips that are more than 6 months and less than one year can raise a red flag. The Code of Federal Regulations (Regulations) states that a trip longer then 6 months but less then one year, creates a rebuttable presumption of abandonment of LPR status. This does not mean that a person will lose LPR status, rather the trip is assumed to break the continuity of residence in the U.S. and the person would have to start the count toward eligibility for filing for naturalization again. This presumption is "rebuttable"; this means it can be overcome in some instances2.

i got this from this website

are they still gonna question me if i get a reentry permit?

6 months and 1 day

hanhuang : what if by some reason, you must stay for 6 months and 1 day?????
Dont complicate your life......you already have what really matters, your GC; so why you gonna risk it ??????
Just fill out the RP application , pay for it, and get it, and then you may go to study with no preoccupations.

Good luck with your studies.
