Question regarding Nat. Certificate

On the certificate, it is clearly mentioned not to photocopy the cert. I have to send the original certificate along with passport application. Is there a slightest possibility of losing it during the PP processing? What would be the remedy in that situation?

Thank you in advance.

I am in a similar dilemna. If we can't copy the certificate, how can we prove that we are US Citizens if the employer is far away? Passport will be a solution but it is not readily available.

I believe the verbiage includes "lawful authority". Some interpret that, you have the lawful authority, if its in your name. Meaning, go ahead and make copies for yourself. But, I dont think you can use a copy as official document, even if notarized. But, it might come in handy, when applying for a duplicate.

This topic has been beaten to death almost as much as traffic tickets. Go ahead and make as many copies as you want of your certificate, it's perfectly legal to do so for your personal records. The prohibitive language on the certificate refers to copying the certificate for fradulent use.
