Question regarding GC interview

Hello

I have a question about GC. I got married in India when my husband had GC. I came to US on F1 (student visa) as a married status: 'SINGLE', because I was afraid that my F1 visa would be rejected if i had told that i m married to GC holder. After coming to US, we got married here to have a marriage certificate because we did not have a marriage certificate from india. Now my husband is a US citizen, n we have filed for my GC. Now, my question is:

If in GC interview, I am asked why did u hide the info that you were married when u applied for F1 visa, how do i handle it?

The truth is: I was afraid that my F1 visa would be rejected if i had told that i m married to GC holder. Can I give this true answer in the GC interview?

I would really appreciate any reply.
Thanks !!

Ruby

Rubyred, what you did is misrepresentation. Forget F-1, now you have jeopardized your GC as it is a reson for life time ban, which is gauranteed. If your spouse can apply for waiver you have a chance at GC, which given your senario is tough to get. Consult a attorney ASAP.
Now on your I-485 application where did you mention that you got married? If you metioned India. then you are doomed for sure. Anyways what you did is misrepresentation and the consequences are dire. Best of luck.

Your problem is that you concealed a material fact for an immigration benefit. They might not find out about the Indian marriage if there's no legal documentation, but they may ask when you met and unearth it this way.

If you haven't mentioned or turned anything in about your marriage in India, then you are fine, otherwise they will fry you at the interview.

Thanks all,

I did not mention anything about my marriage in india in either I -130 or I - 485. Have just metioned about marriage in US, and using the marriage certificate of US.

You must be ready to answer questions regarding where you stayed first when you came to US and how did you meet your future spouse.

Remember that the stories between you and your spouse have to be consistent.

Well in that case you might have a chance.
If they ever find out now or even years from now they will Revoke your GC.
There is not even a waiver if they find out that you misrepresented yourself to get a immigration benefit.

How soon did you get married in the US after getting the visa? The visa application asks about spouse or fiance living in the US, so if you got married very soon after obtaining the visa, they'll think you lied by failing to mention the fiance.

just go on with your story........be confident and consistent. they aint mind readers, nor are they gonna put you on the polygraph machine or have you hypnotized. cook up a decent story with your husband and stick with it.

as you have mis interpreted ur self, u cant turn back now and there are no intersections, just keep going ahead.

u would be answering questions under oath, and its perjury and u know you mis-interpreted yourself for a immigration benefit... nothing can be worse... so just go on with ur story... what do u got to lose huh..... they wont blow your head off

Make sure you take a mini-fire extinguisher with you to the interview, you could be fried by USCIS, especially if your got married as soon as you arrived in the US and filed for a green card. US Consulate is going to cry foul, because if you had a fiance in the US, your F1 was procured fraudulently because your true intentions was marriage. Did you even attend college? If you never attended college, then USCIS has reason to want to introduce you to a blow torch session.
