Do you know which apartment complex in NJ this theft happened ?

msomani:

Not sure what the correct answer is but my impression is that you will need to wait to get the physical duplicate passport along with Police FIR about the lost passport. Remember to maintain the police FIR for future immigration purposes especially for green card purposes.

Near Edison station

it happened in an apartment complex near edison station. I dont recall the apartment name but i will post it in a day.

1) Edison Village
2) Blueberry Village
3) Rivendell
4) Oxford Arms (I dont think so)

Which of the above ?

my guess is Rasberry court. Heard of quite a few apt. breaks in edison village in last 3 mnths.

Anyways guys quit making fun of this person's sorry situation.

And remember to always keep important documents in a safe place.

Also don't leave your passport/H1 out in the open, even at home.
And dont put it in a little pouch marked P A S S P O R T.

Apart from maintain your original passport and other documents in a safe vault, what may help is maintain 1 photocopy of your passport, visas, gc and academics at work and another copy with family in your home country. This way one is atleast not totally hosed.

Yeah personally i would suggest to keep passport and documents in some place where it would be difficult for people to find...may be behind the groceries in kitchen...believe me thats a very good idea

Talking of safes, buy a fire safe vault. A simple small fire safe (just to hold a couple of documents like passport and immigration papers) costs about $30 - $40 in Walmart. It is worth that money.
