Question Regarding Canadian Marrying an American in the US

Hello,

I am a Canadian living in Canada with my American fiancee. We would like to get married in Hawaii in August, but I am wondering if there may be any potential problems doing this.

In particular, will I have any issues entering the US with an American citizen for the express purpose of getting married? We will be returning to Canada after the wedding, so I would hope that simply providing evidence of our return tickets would be fine.

Thanks,
Chad

Getting married in the US is perfectly fine. It's getting married and then attempting to stay is when it becomes tricky.

Seeing as you stated that you plan to return back to Canada then you'll be fine. Just make sure you have evidence on you that you plan to return. Only show this information if you are asked for it and do not volunteer information (ie do not tell the POE officer that you plan to get married unless the officer specifically asks you whether you are getting married......a good way to remember this is if the officer asks you "do you know what time it is?" the answer is either "yes" or "no"....NOT "it's 3 o'clock").

Good luck with you marriage and have fun :D

That should suffice. Just to re-iterate Elcupacabras's point, do not volunteer any information. Asnwer truthfully and to the point whatever question is posed to you. Nothing more, nothing less!!!

We will be returning to Canada after the wedding, so I would hope that simply providing evidence of our return tickets would be fine.
